Building wing named for former township treasurer





FLINT TWP. — The treasury wing of the township administration building has been named in honor of former township treasurer Sandra S. Wright.

Ina6to1vote,thetownshipboard approved the purchase of a black and white sign to be hung outside over the door over the entrance to the treasurer/ sewer and water department at the township administration building. Also, a picture plaque will be placed just inside the door.

Wright, who passed away last December at age 73, served the township for five terms (20 years) – its longest serving treasurer.

Current Treasurer Lisa Anderson made the motion to approve the honorary designation and also is spearheading a committee for a special tribute to Wright.

Anderson said that a date would be set for a formal dedication of the sign once it has been made and installed. The work to be done by Signs by Crannie is quoted at an estimated cost of $363.14.

Trustee Carol Pfaff-Dahl, who seconded Anderson’s motion, said that Wright deserved such an honor. Trustee Barb Vert cast the no vote.

In her motion, Anderson noted that Wright retired in 2012 due to illness. During her tenure as the longest elected township treasurer, she served on numerous township boards including the Fire Retirement Board; Liquor Advisory Board; and 10 years as Director of the Water/Sewer Department. Other memberships included the Michigan Treasurer’s Association, Government Finance Officers Association and the Municipal Treasurers of the U.S. and Canada. She also achieved the designation of “Certified Municipal Finance Administrator.”

Sandra also received several state proclamations, employee recognitions, the Patsy Lou Award for Leadership and the C.D.B.A. Award for Distinction. She also was recognized as an outstanding employee with a disability by the Disability Network.
