DETROIT — The “Toughest Sport on Earth” comes to Detroit for the first time as the Top 40 bull riders and the fiercest bucking bulls in the world will compete at Ford Field Saturday, March 10, 2012 for the Detroit Invitational Championship. The total purse of more than $100,000, including $30,000 to the winner is up for grabs.
Points and money earned are also used to qualify the riders—who hail from Mexico, Brazil, Canada, Australia and across the U.S.—for the world finals, which is the richest bull riding event on the planet with a total purse of $2.2 million, including a bonus of $1 million to the PBR World Champion, who also receives the coveted World Championship buckle. Organizers say this is the first of a new annual event in Detroit. Fans will witness thrilling 8-second rides and jaw-dropping wrecks throughout the adrenaline-soaked two-hour performance as the PBR’s insanely brave cowboys risk it all against monstrous animal athletes that can weigh as much as 2,000 pounds, said promoters.
