Don’t miss government contracting seminars

FLINT — The Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) of the Genesee Regional Chamber of Commerce presents “Secrets to Successful Government Contracting”, a three-part summer series which continues July 22 from 8:30-11:30 a.m. at the Genesee Regional Chamber of Commerce in the Mott Board Room. It concludes Aug. 26. The seminars will be conducted by Todd Olson, Program Director of the Northwest Michigan PTAC office in Traverse City.

During the July seminar, “Understanding Federal Solicitation”, Olson will provide businesses with everything they need to effectively respond to federal solicitations, including Department of Defense solicitations. Participants will gain understanding of the differentiation between a Request for Quotation (RFQ), Invitation for Bids (IFB) and a Request for Proposal (RFP), as well as the best online resources.

In August, participants will learn the keys to “Responding to the RFP.” Businesses interested in breaking into government contracting or looking to improve their approach are encouraged to attend. Attendees also will learn about the services and support the Regional Chamber PTAC has available to help with the contracting process.

The cost for each class is $15 or registration for the entire series is $30. The Regional Chamber is located at 519 S. Saginaw St. in downtown Flint.

GENESEE COUNTY — Average retail gasoline prices in Michigan have risen16.8 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.54 a gallon. This compares with the national average that has increased .5 cents per gallon in the last week to $3.57 a gallion, according to gasoline price website Including the change in gas prices in Michigan during the past week, prices yesterday were 98.5 cents per gallon higher than the same day one year ago and are 37.6 cents per gallon lower than a month ago. FLINT TWP. —Creek Speaks, the Swartz Creek Chamber networking event starts July 12 and will be held every other Tuesday at Cooper’s on Bristol, 1519 W. Bristol Rd. This meeting is open to all businesses who are members of the Swartz Creek Area Chamber of Commerce. Attending members can enjoy drink specials and appetizers provided by Cooper’s on Bristol while networking and sharing ideas to increase their business.
