C-A Board of Education seeking applicants for vacancy

FLINT TWP. — Anyone interested and qualified to serve on the Carman- Ainsworth School Board does not have to wait for the November election.

The board has announced that it is accepting applications until June 6 for a vacancy on the board created by the recent resignation of Laura Garrison. Applicants must be residents of the school district. Those wishing to be considered for appointment to fill this vacancy are asked to provide a letter of interest and resume by 4 p.m., Monday June 6, to Superintendent of the Carman-Ainsworth Community Schools, Administration Building, G-3475 W. Court Street, Flint, Michigan 48532.

The board will interview all interested candidates and fill the vacancy by a majority vote.

The appointee will file an acceptance of office and will hold office until the next regular school election. The appointment only lasts until the next regular election (November 2016) at which point it will be open to any interested candidates who file by the July 26 deadline.

There already were three other six-year board terms expiring at the end of this year. Therefore, there will now be four positions on the November 8 ballot.

Garrison said in her letter of resignation that she is leaving because she is interested in becoming a C-A administrator. Garrison said she plans to apply for available principal positions in the district and wants to avoid any conflict of interest.

“For the past 3 years, I have had the honor and pleasure of serving the families and students of Carman Ainsworth School District as a member of the Carman Ainsworth School board,” Garrison said in her May 25 letter of resignation. “It has been a position that I have held very dear to my heart.

Our district is one of great potential, integrity, and high expectations. I am very proud of the work we have accomplished and look forward to seeing what we have to offer for the families in our future. I have greatly enjoyed the cooperative experience of serving on the school board during my terms and am thankful for your help and guidance along the way.
