C-A robotics team on winning streak

FLINT TWP. — They have done it again. For the third outing in a row, the Carman-Ainsworth FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) Team 314 has finished first at a district competition, according to a press release.

Competing last weekend with 40 other teams from around the state at the Lansing FIRST Robotics District Competition in Mason, Team 314 won the competition in an alliance with Team 68, Truck Town Thunder (T3) of Ortonville and Team 1684, The Chimeras of Lapeer.

Team 314 was the alliance captain. They held the first ranking position all weekend and competed in all elimination matches leading up to the finals.

“This is our third Blue Banner this competition season for a total of 7 in two years,” said Ellen Crain, team coach and mentor. “It is not over yet as the chances to win more is high at the Michigan FRC State Championship, and if we qualify for the World Championship in St. Louis, MO (April 22-25).”

Team 314 is currently ranked 6th in the State of Michigan out of 347 teams with 146 points earned towards the Michigan FRC State Championship coming up April 8-11 at the DeltaPlex Arena in Grand Rapids.

As of Sunday April 5, Team 314 “Big MO” has officially qualified for the Michigan FRC State Championship to defend its 2014 State Champion title.

Team 314 also finished first in the Great Lakes Bay Region FIRST Robotics District Competition March 19-21 in Midland and at its first outing this year, March 5-7 at Kettering University in Flint.

The winning ways of this talented team underscores an ongoing need for community support and sponsorship. Contact Ellen Crain at ellenc@bigmo314.com or 810-691-2810 for more information on providing financial or other help for the team.

Community support for Big Mo is also sought for upcoming fundraisers. Buy a pizza on April 15 and May 20, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., at the Little Caesars on Bristol Road and a percentage of sales will be donated to Big MO.

Or dine at bd’s Mongolian Grill, 4205 Miller Road, from 5 – 8 p.m. April 16, when Big MO will be guest grilling. All tips and proceeds collected will be for the team.
