BIRCH RUN — A crowd of family, friends and gawkers gathered outside the Birch Run Expo Center on Saturday evening to watch the promenade of formally-dressed Carman-Ainsworth seniors and their dates as they arrived at this milestone social occasion and rite of passage.
Themed “A Night Under the Stars,’’ the glam event drew an estimated 350 prom goers. One of the highlights is watching them arrive.
One young lady rode up alone in a vintage Bentley. A couple was the sole occupants of a stretch Hummer limo. One large group arrived via a trolley and others rolled up in vintage cars or convertibles.
As usual, couples wore matching colors. Among common themes for the ball gowns were lace-up backs, sheer bottoms and ruffled or tulle princess skirts. Many young women also sported some type of sparkly headgear.
After posing for pictures and checking each other out on the sidewalk outside the Expo Center, the celebrants made their way up to the second floor where star-spangled lighting draped the ceiling, twinkling lighted centerpieces adorned black clothed tables and golden star shapes glittered against a black backdrop on the walls to create their unforgettable “Night Under the Stars.”
