CAMS applauds Spelling Bee champions

FLINT TWP. — Grant Bean, a sixth-grade student at Carman- Ainsworth Middle School, placed third among sixth-graders in the countywide Spelling Bee, hosted by the Genesee Intermediate School District.

Grant was one of three top spellers from CAMS to advance to the county level. Participants in the GISD countywide Bee are first winners in their local district. Two students and one alternate are chosen for each grade level with the alternate competing only if the first and second place winners are unable to.

Winners are selected at each grade level from 4-12, then an overall champion chosen for grades 5-8 and 9-12.

The annual spelling competition is designed to help students develop correct English language skills for lifelong usage, improve spelling skills. Increase their vocabularies and learn new concepts, according to the GISD.
