CAMS robotics team recognized by township board

FLINT TWP. — Members of the Carman-Ainsworth Middle School Robotics team were given recognition Nov. 19 at the Board of Trustees meeting for their accomplishments.

Mo’ Peeps Team 1375 members were at the board meeting and received certificates of recognition for the team’s World Championships 2018 Excellence Award win.

Teacher and advisor Leanne Welch told the board CAMS robotics has won several world championships, starting with their first in 2009.

“They’ve been doing this for years,” said Welch. “These kids make it look easy, but it’s not easy. They work hard, probably sometimes 100 hours in a week, when getting ready for a tournament.”

Last year, she said, they went to World Tournament and won the highest award – the Excellence Award – in that competition. After that win, she said they almost immediately started work on the current season.

“We started our new season, working since last April, and we’ve already been to three tournaments,” said Welch. “We’ve already won seven trophies.”

Team members were called up before the board and were given certificates recognizing their accomplishments.
