FLINT TWP. — Morgan Wright, a 6th grader at Carman-Ainsworth Middle School, placed third in the Genesee County Spelling Bee competition for sixth graders on Friday, March 4.

“We are very proud of her,” said Kevin Summey, CAMS principal.

The countywide spelling bee for grade 5 also was held last Friday. Contests for grade 4 and for grades 7 through 11 were held this week, wrapping up Wednesday March 9 with the grades 9-12 championship bee and the grades 5-8 championship bee.

The Genesee Intermediate School District (GISD) is the host site for the countywide spelling bee for grades 4-12. Participants were spelling bee winners in their local district prior to competing at GISD. The annual spelling bee is designed to help students develop correct English language skills for lifelong usage, improve spelling skills. Increase their vocabularies and learn new concepts. — Rhonda Sanders
