FENTON –The Carman-Ainsworth boys’ swim and dive team is bolstering its numbers this season by combining the girls’ swimmers from the fall season with the boys’ team this year. The combo team placed 15th at the annual Fenton Relays on Saturday. Novi won the meet with 404 points, Fenton was second with 292 and Lake Orion was third with 286. Brighton was fourth with 282, Howell was fifth with 272 and Bay City Western sixth with 258. Milford was seventh with 244, Hartland eighth with 234, Flint Powers ninth with 156 and White Lake Lakeland 10th with 154. Haslett was 11th with 144, Swartz Creek- Flushing 12th with 122, Davison 13th with 112, Lapeer 14th with 92, Carman-Ainsworth 15th with 84 and Holly 16th with 70.
The Cavaliers opened the meet with an eighth-place finish in the 200 backstroke relay in 2:16.59 with Nathan Ratynski, Mary Dollinger, Shaelyn Maguffee and Chase Matusik in the lane. Natalie Cook, Matusik, Conner Heaton and Carson Koegel then placed ninth in the 200 free relay in 1:47.24. Dollinger, Grace Pangerl, Katie Speaks and Cook then placed 13th in the 400 IM relay in 5:40.82.
Koegel, Heaton, Koegel and Cook then took 12th in the 850 Crescendo Relay in 10:08.74. Carman-Ainsworth was disqualified in the 200 breaststroke relay on an alternating kick penalty. Holly was penalized for the same violation and Hartland was DQ’d. for non-simultaneous arms.
Ratynski, Aaron Cadarette, Matusik and Cameron Koegel took 11th in the 400 free relay touching in 4:33.88. Ratynski, Speaks, Heaton and Carson Koegel finished in 10th place in the 200 medley relay in 2:07.27 and Cook, Cameron Koegel, Ratynski and Heaton finished in 15th in the final race of the day, the 8×50 relay in 3:51.13.
