Cavs bowler tops qualifying at state

BATTLE CREEK — Quinton Burnett was the No. 1 qualifier in last Saturday’s Div. 1 state singles bowling finals last Saturday, but the Carman- Ainsworth senior was stopped by an old rival in the first round of match play at M-66 Bowl.

Burnett smashed a six-game qualifying block of 1,315, on games of 199, 168, 209, 262, 232 and 245. He edged Dustin Rose of Brownstone Woodhaven by two pins for the No. 1 seed going into the round of 16.

But it was there that Burnett fell to Davison senior Tylor Greene, 415- 347. Greene had tied for the 16th and final qualifying spot with a 1,165 total and had to win a one-game roll-off to stay alive. He went on to win the singles championship by three pins, 438- 435, over Kevin Yang of Lake Orion.

Quinisha Burnett placed 31st in qualifying with a 1,020 total, 52 pins off the 16th and final match-play berth. The junior had games of 200, 175, 141, 207, 122 and 175. — D.N.
