Cavs’ cross country falls short at regionals




SAGINAW – The Carman-Ainsworth cross country teams competed at the Div. 1 regionals at Delta College on Saturday, where both teams fell short of qualifying for state finals. The top three teams and the top 15 individuals qualified for state finals at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn on Saturday.

The Carman-Ainsworth boys were 12th with 377 and the girls were 13th with 403. Saginaw Heritage took first place for the boys with 53. Traverse City Central was second with 76 and Traverse City West was third with 77. Traverse City Central was first for the girls with 44, Traverse City West was second with 63 and Bay City Western was third with 89.

Carman-Ainsworth also did not see any individuals place in the top 15 to advance to state finals. Joe Chinkeefatt missed out by just nine seconds, coming in 20th in 16:45.98. Dalero McNeal was 79th in 19:10.32. Andre Williams was 91st in 20:18.73. Darwin Bostick finished in 20:38.86 for 93rd. Andrew Stephens was 94th in 21:45.98. Keegan Maguffee was 95th in 21:44.27 and Ian Wickham was 96th in 22:02.08.

Rayven Brantley paced the Lady Cavs, finishing 72nd in 22:12.37. Mikaiah Holbrook was 75th in 22:44.53. Priscilla Bradford finished in 22:46.81 for 76th. Mikayla Holbrook was 88th in 24:36.65. In 92nd was Chante Boyd in 27:55.35 and Rachel Allen was 94th in 29:32.48.
