FLINT TWP. – Josh Jackson passed for 213 yards and two touchdowns, but Carman-Ainsworth dropped its final football game of the season last Friday, 21-12 to Flint Powers Catholic at Cavalier Field.
The Cavs trailed 14-0 at halftime and 21-6 after three quarters. A fourth-quarter score wasn’t enough as Carman- Ainsworth finished at 4-5 overall and 3-3 in the Saginaw Valley League-Red.
Powers took a 7-0 lead on a 10-yard touchdown run by Reese Morgan with 3:46 left in the first quarter, then made it 14-0 on Morgan’s 7-yard touchdown catch with 58 seconds left in the half.
Carman-Ainsworth got back in the game just 3:01 into the second half on Jackson’s 46-yard touchdown pass to Cahlil Brownlee on third-and-26.
Powers pulled ahead 21-6 on Noah Sargent’s 32-yard touchdown pass to Nick Thompson late in the third quarter. Carman-Ainsworth came back early in the fourth on Jackson’s 11-yard touchdown pass to Jaylen Bradley to make it 21-12, but that was the final score of the night.
Jackson hit 19-of-30 passes, eight of them to Caylen Jones for 77 yards. Brownlee caught five passes for 69 yards. The Cavs gained just 68 yards on the ground, led by Jalen Lewis with 59 yards on 15 carries. Montrell Weatherspoon and Kyle Mason Jr. led the defense with five tackles each.
Powers finished 7-2 and 5-1 in the SVL-Blue and will visit Goodrich on Friday for a first-round playoff game.
