SAGINAW – Although it hasn’t been the easiest season for Carman-Ainsworth’s cross country team, it does have some solid runners who will be looking for redemption at Saturday’s Div. 1 regional at Delta College, hosted by Saginaw Heritage.

Along with the Cavaliers and Hawks, also competing will be Alpena, Bay City Western, Bay City Central, Davison, Flushing, Lapeer, Midland, Midland Dow, Mt. Pleasant, Saginaw Arthur Hill, Swartz Creek, Traverse City Central and Traverse City West.

In the Div. 1 state rankings for the girls, Bay City Western is No. 5, Traverse City Central took No. 6 and Traverse City West No. 9. None of the boys’ teams in the regional are currently ranked.

Joe Chinkeefatt will be heavily depended upon by the boys, recently timing in at 16:49.90 at the Saginaw Valley League Championships last Wednesday. Dalero McNeal, Kielin Thompson and Keegan Maguffee will also be pivotal for the Cavs.

The girls are led by Rayven Brantley, who clocked in at 20:15.22. Mikaiah and Mikayla Holbrook, Ayianna Massey and Priscilla Bradford-Walker have all posted strong finishes throughout the season.

The top three teams and top 15 individuals at the regional will qualify for the state meet on Nov. 3 at Michigan International Speedway. – B.P.
