Cavs send boys’ team and two qualifiers to state meet

LANSING – The Carman-Ainsworth boys’ bowling team qualified for the state meet after placing second at the Div. 1 regional at Royal Scot Lanes in Lansing last Friday.

The top three teams advance out of the regional and on to the state meet. Saginaw Heritage claimed the title with 4,325 pins and Carman- Ainsworth was second with 4,120. Jackson was third with 4,008 and Swartz Creek was fourth with 3,906. Howell was fifth, Pinckney was sixth, Hartland seventh and Brighton eighth. Portage Northern was ninth, Holt placed 10th, Portage Central 11th, Loy Norrix 12th, Everett 13th and Grand Ledge 14th.

Along with the boys’ team, Jordan Nunn qualified as an individual after placing second overall with games of 268, 246, 210, 227, 210, 248 – 1,400. The top 10 individuals move on to the individual portion of the state meet. Dequincy Adams placed 21st with 175, 200, 198, 211, 176, 202 – 1,162. Milton Gibson rolled games of 215, 185, 183, 167, 187, 216 – 1,153 to place 23rd, Robert Wheeler placed 31st with games of 170, 242, 191, 191, 177, 160 – 1,131, Jordan Bair was 34th with 144, 143, 191, 215, 181, 236 – 1,110 and Wayna Montgomery was 63rd with 202, 145, 172, 139, 165, 159 – 982.

While the girls’ squad did not qualify after placing in a tie for ninth place overall, Caity Cox placed 10th to grab the girls’ final qualifying spot. She rolled games of 172, 136, 211, 220, 173, 170 – 1,091.

Jackson won the girls’ title with 3,690 pins, Swartz Creek was second with 3,503 and Howell was third with 3,439. Heritage was fourth, Brighton fifth, Hartland sixth, Holt seventh and Pinckney eighth. Portage Central and Carman-Ainsworth tied for ninth and Portage Northern was 11th. Loy Norrix was 12th, Grand Ledge 13th and Everett did not field a girls’ team.

For Carman-Ainsworth, Bernardette Gruber placed 22nd, Montanna Andrews was 40th, Jazmine Cozart placed 59th, Hannah Miller was 66th and Kennedy Hogan was 71st.

The state finals are March 6-7 at Sunnybrook Lanes in Sterling Heights.
