SAGINAW – The postseason begins for area track teams on Friday and Saturday. Carman-Ainsworth is set to compete at Saginaw Heritage on Friday for the Div. 1 regional meet, where the top two finishers in each event, plus any other athletes meeting the state qualifying standards in their events, will move on to the state finals held June 3. Carman-Ainsworth will face off with Alpena, Bay City Central, Bay City Western, Davison, Flint Kearsley, Flushing, Lapeer, Midland, Midland Dow, Mt. Pleasant, Saginaw Arthur Hill, Saginaw Heritage, Swartz Creek, Traverse City Central and Traverse City West.
For the boys’ team, the Cavaliers have had strong showings in many of the individual and relay events. For individual sprints, Marshall Brooks, Malik Cager, Trent Barron and Randall Broome will all compete for the top spots in the 100, 200 and 400 runs. The 400 and 800 relay teams of Brooks, Barron, Broome and Arron Williams look to continue the dominance that they have had all season long. The 1,600-relay team of Barron, Brooks, Williams and Cager is also poised for a strong showing. Meanwhile, in the field events, high jumper Jacoby Blount will be an athlete to watch along with Williams in the long jump and Wyatt Pangerl in the pole vault.
The girls’ side will be strong in the relay events, as the 400-relay team of Kivonna Thompson, Areyanna Harrison, Dejene McNair and Aleah Mixon will be competing for a top spot. The 1,600-relay team of Rayven Brantley, Kierra Gillard, Mixon and Harrison also will be a team to watch. For the field events, Laura Depew will look to place in the long jump competition as she has done all season long.
