Check cashing store robbed at gunpoint

SWARTZ CREEK — Metro Police Authority officers continued to look for a man who robbed the Check ‘n Go in Swartz Creek at gunpoint on Monday.

The holdup was just the latest in a series of robberies at Check ‘n Go, Cash Store and similar businesses, said Metro Chief Matthew Bade.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the culprit entered the store around 12:20 p.m., brandished a handgun and demanded money, Bade said. The clerk handed over several hundred dollars.

The clerk described the robber as white, standing about 5 feet, 11 inches tall, and having brown hair. He wore a yellow vest, blue hoodie, blue jeans, tan boots, a hat, a white facemask and blue, rubber gloves, the chief said.

The suspect fled east from the store, behind Burger King and toward Elms Road. Police set up a perimeter and attempted a K9 track with no results.

Similar robberies have occurred recently at Check ‘n Go locations in Howell, Grand Blanc and Fenton, and at the Cash Store in Burton.
