— With a freshly renovated location, Cindee’s Dance will start its 13th year in Swartz Creek. Owned by Cindee Kunz, the studio moved into its Swartz Creek location, 8048 MIller Rd., in March after spending 12 years at a studio on Fenton Road in Flint. After she and her husband David purchased a building in downtown Swartz Creek, Kunz decided to move her studio in one of the spaces.

“We live in Swartz Creek and we wanted to be in our hometown area,” she said.

Owning her own studio has been a lifelong dream of Kunz’s. “I’ve been dancing since I was five, and I’ve wanted to own a studio ever since I was a kid,” she said.

The dance studio offers ballet, jazz, tap, lyrical, pom, Tae Kwon Do and yoga. Kunz is the primary instructor for all the dance classes and her assistant, Clarissa McLaughlin, helps teach ballet, tap and jazz. For yoga, the studio employs a yoga instructor. For the pom classes, Kunz hired Amanda Moody, the previous poms coach at Swartz Creek Middle School. The Tae Kwon Do class, which runs 6-6:45 p.m. each Friday night, will be taught by Grand Master David Weatherly, owner and director of World Martial Arts Academy in Fenton. The Tae Kwon Do classes are for boys and girls of all ages, and classes begin this Friday, Oct. 8.

Cost for classes at Cindee’s Dance is based on hours. For one hour of classes, the cost is $40 a month. For one-and-a-half hours, the cost is $45 a month. For two hours, the cost is $50 a month and for more than two hours, the cost is $60 a month. The studio also offers a family rate of $100 month, with no limit on classes but only good for one, household family.

Unlike other dance studios, Cindee’s Dance does not charge its clients a registration fee and since opening, Kunz has not raised her prices.

“My goal is that every child will be able to take dance. I don’t want somebody to not be able to afford to take it,” she said. “We do if for the joy of dancing and it’s a family environment. We are a friendly, Christian, family environment.”

The studio has approximately 60 students, ranging in age from two-and-a-half to adults. The classes are offered for boys and girls. Cindee’s Dance sees customers from all over Genesee County, with many coming from Swartz Creek and Durand. “Everybody followed me here from Flint with the exception of three,” she said.

Cindee’s Dance will hold an open house 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Oct. 30. During that time, there will be registration for pom at 10 a.m. Individuals interested in pom classes also can call the studio to register.

Hours are 5-10 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday; 5-7 p.m. Friday and noon-1:30 p.m. Saturday. The studio currently is closed on Wednesdays and Sundays. For more information, call 810-234-7376 or visit www.cindeesdance.
