CLAYTON TOWNSHIP — The Clayton Township Board of Trustees will hold their monthly meetings a little earlier starting in February.
Meetings will be called to order at 6 p.m., one hour earlier, beginning with the Thursday, Feb. 11, meeting.
Trustee Shelley Thompson said the new time will be more convenient for residents who wish to attend the meetings, and coincide with the start time for other meetings such as those of the Planning Commission and Swartz Creek Area Fire Board.
Trustees Tammy Kapraun and Brad Anthony voted against the change.
“I think this is a mistake,” Kapraun said. “We could be disenfranchising residents who have known this meeting has been at 7 o’clock literally forever.”
Trustee Greg Childers pointed out that most meetings are not well-attended.
“How many meetings have we set and no one has been in the audience?” he asked. “I’ve been on this board for 16 years, and the only time people show up (at the meetings) is when things are stirred up.”
