FLINT TWP. — The Flint Township Board of Trustees voted to spend a total of $21,587.09 on items in preparation for upcoming elections.
Township Clerk Kathy Funk told the board her office needs to purchase 16 election laptops at a cost of $12,202.24. The current computers run on Windows 7, and the State of Michigan is requiring that all laptops run on Windows 10. Funk said the township needs a new laptop for each of its 15 precincts and one additional laptop because employees in the Clerk’s Office have found it necessary to have an extra laptop in case of emergencies.
Funk also stated that with the passage of Proposal 18-3 and No reason Absentee Voting, the Elections Division will be sending out postcards to all registered voters not already on the Permanent Absentee Voter list to determine who would like to be included. She said this needs to be done well ahead of the beginning of the 2020 election cycle in order to have an idea how many registered voters want to take advantage of No Reason Absentee voting.
The board approved paying KCI $9,384.85 for the printing, postage and mailing of approximately 25,000 postcards.
