College football in Michigan faring better than the pros

Fat Guy Corner

The Detroit Lions offensively and defensively flat out stunk in the Windy City last Sunday afternoon.

The Lions allowed Justin Fields, the Bears quarterback, to look like a Hall of Famer in just his second start as a professional quarterback.

The facts are, Fields was plain ole awful last week against the Cleveland Browns, but how many times have we seen this as Lions fans?

I actually thought the Lions would win this football game as they have been playing competitive football this season. I should have known better as a Lions fan for 50 years that they would continue their losing culture stigma attached to this franchise.

My favorite joke is: I want the Lions at my funeral as pall bearers so they can let me down one last time!

I ask, how can you be in the RedZone four times and come away with zero points? Yeah, I can’t answer the question either. I can say, I see why the Rams wanted to unload Jared Goff as he makes too many critical errors.

The winless Lions will ROAR into Minnesota on Sunday and I will be on the couch in a huge SNORE! The Fat Guy prediction: Purple Touchdowns Rain (Prince) 34 and Still A Goose Egg In Win Column 24. (When will we see bloody kneecaps coach Campbell?)

How about Michigan and Michigan State both undefeated so far this college football season? I say, happy fan bases in Ann Arbor and East Lansing after the month of September. The Spartans, in a non-conference win over Western Kentucky, exuded total domination over the Hilltoppers. The statistics were close to even, but the statistics were misleading. I cannot believe Western Kentucky threw the ball 65 times. I love the fact Spartans rushed the ball 43 times for 4.5 yards per rush. When you can run the football good things will happen for your football team.

The Spartans rushing attack will travel to Rutgers for a noon kickoff. I think this will be a tough game for MSU, however, I see them sneaking out a win. The prediction: Still Undefeated Green and White 27 and Crud Gers 24.

The Wolverines smashed the Badgers in Madison by a score of 38-17. The Wolverines rushing attack struggled, but the defense shut down the Badgers running attack allowing only 1.3 yards per carry. The Wolverines defense looks pretty impressive to me so far this season.

The Wolverines will hit the road to take on Nebraska with a 7:30 p.m. kickoff. The Fat Guy likes the Wolverines to win this football game. I see Maize in the Corn State 31 and Shucked Corn Husks 20.

The MLB baseball season is over and the Tigers played, what I thought, was decent baseball this summer. I like where the team is headed, actually, under manager A J Hinch. Let’s see what the winter time brings the Tigers in free agency.

It’s October and post season baseball began Tuesday (my deadline day) with the American League Wildcard game. The Yankees and Red Sox hook up at Fenway Park. The National League was Wednesday night between the Cardinals and Dodgers. I like the Yankees and Dodgers to advance.

The winner of the Red Sox and Yankees will take on Tampa Bay, while the Astros take on the White Sox in the other series. The winner of the Dodgers and Cardinals will play the Giants. The other series will be the Brewers and Braves. October baseball is the best!

The Red Wings suffered a huge injury as Jakub Vrana injured a shoulder and will be out four months at least.
