Come out to help beautify township park




Each year, a group of volunteers come together at the township park to clean, beautify and enjoy nature. Everyone is welcome.

FLINT TWP. — Same as in years past. volunteers are being invited to come out and lend a helping hand at the 8th annual Join Hands Day, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 30.

The event is organized each year to clean and beautify the Flint Township Park on Norko Drive near the police station. Participating groups include the Gleaners – Greater Flint Area Arbor, the Flint Township Parks and Recreation Committee, Faith Missionary Church Youth Group, 4-H Country Clovers, and Keep Genesee County Beautiful.

After a welcoming breakfast of coffee and donuts served at 9 a.m., the volunteers will attack many projects in the park including cleaning the flowerbeds, planning annuals and perennials in garden areas, mulching parking lot edges, placing wood chips on the nature trails and near the swings area, removing invasive plant species and pile cuttings.

Volunteers are asked to bring work gloves and tools. A pizza lunch will be served at noon. RSVP to Peter Mikelens at 810-230-1292.

 

 

The event will take place rain or shine.

Township residents also are being sought to help with other Parks and Recreation Committee beautification projects, Ideas for future projects also are welcomed.
