ABC12’s Larry Elliott to speak about S.S. Edmund Fitzgerald

FLINT — Larry Elliott, co-anchor of ABC12 News This Morning and ABC12 News at Noon, is the featured speaker at the Mott Community College Fridays at Applewood Lecture Series on Oct. 8.

A continental breakfast will be served at 9 a.m., with the presentation to follow in the auditorium of the MCC Regional Technology Center. The cost is $10 per person. This event is open to the public. Please call 810- 232-8044 for tickets.

Elliott, who has won numerous professional awards, including three Michigan Emmy awards, as well as awards from the Michigan Association of Broadcasters, the Detroit Press Club, the Associated Press and United Press International, is also an accomplished diver.

He was involved in organizing and executing three expeditions to the S.S. Edmund Fitzgerald, as well as producing three awardwinning documentaries on the shipwreck — the most famous shipwreck in the history of Great Lakes shipping. Elliott will share the history as well as his diving experiences with audience members at the Friday program.

Gallery to present local artist

McLaren offering heart health, cholesterol help

FLINT — McLaren’s Nutrition Counseling Program is now offering “Heart Health- Controlling Your Cholesterol and Blood Pressure.” Have you been told that your cholesterol or blood pressure is high? Do you have a family history of heart disease? Do you want to learn how to prevent heart disease and be healthier? If you can answer ‘yes’ to any of these questions this class can help. Meal planning tips and recipes will be provided.

This class is being offered, from 10 a.m. to noon, on the following Fridays: Oct. 8, Nov. 12 and Dec. 10 at the McLaren Diabetes Education Program Department, located at 3200 Beecher Rd. in the Beech Hill Center building. The class fee is $30 and registration is required.
