FLINT — Patrons of the Flint Farmer’s Market, 300 E. First St., soon will be able to enjoy a community piano, thanks to a collaboration between the Flint School of Performing Arts (FSPA) and Flint Institute of Arts (FIA) Art School. The community piano will be unveiled at a brief ceremony at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30. FSPA students and others will perform.
FSPA provided the piano and handled the moving and tuning, while FIA students painted the piano.
“We are so excited to partner with the FSPA and the FIA Art School on this wonderful project! Music is a part of our community in so many ways and we are looking forward to seeing the creative results it will yield in our market,” said Market Manager, Karianne Martus.
The area’s first community piano was installed at the Genesee Valley Mall, and is played daily, while providing opportunities for diverse people to come together through music. The second piano, at the Flint Farmer’s Market, will be placed where families come to nourish themselves with fresh and delicious food, and can now nourish themselves artistically, as well.
