Construction approved by Planning Commission

FLINT TWP. — Site plans for two new builds were approved last week by the township Planning Commission. One will be a 4,000 square-foot stand-alone PureSleep retail store to be built on a vacant lot at Miller Road, next door to the Best Buy building.

The other is two 8,000 square foot buildings for a Medical Office Complex to be built in two phases on a vacant lot on Linden Road between Court and Calkins.

PureSleep is currently located inside Art Van Furniture store but looking to relocate to its own building. Before approving the plan, planning commissioners added contingencies about the height of light poles and opaque privacy fencing at the rear of the lot which borders residential properties.

Mike Pifer of Kraft Engineering presented the Medical Office plans on behalf of Dr. Shukairy and his daughter, who will establish her practice in the phase-one building.

Commissioners asked questions about the suitability of the property, formerly a landfill. Pifer said that clearance from the Department of Environmental Quality was provided years ago during construction of a nearby property and that he could provide a letter as proof.

Commissioners also asked about a shallow drainage ditch on one side of the property about three feet from a sidewalk which could pose a safety issue. Pifer said that could be addressed with landscaping although the area is dry most of the time.

Construction is planned to start around the first of May, Pifer said.
