County investigating possible hack of emergency siren system

GENESEE COUNTY — The Genesee County 9-1-1 Authority, Emergency Weather/Civil Warning Sirens have been suspiciously compromised, according to a spokesperson.

The Genesee County 9-1-1 Authority and the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office of Emergency Management are investigating the cause of activations to our current Emergency Siren Alert System.

We are working with local, state and federal agencies to resolve the concerns of these false activations.

Last night’s siren activations that went off at 6:25 p.m. effecting the Mott College Campus area of the City of Flint.

At 11:25 p.m. the activation effected the City of Burton, City of Flint, Flint Township, Gaines Township and Mundy Township communities was not weather related and was not set off by the Genesee County 9-1-1 Staff.

We are investigating all possibilities to resolve the problem and to maintain the safety and security of our community. We are aggressively working at finding the cause of the activations. We are very concerned given the time of year about the public’s safety.
