Creek grads compete in Amateur Golf Championship

ADA –Weller and Ben Zyber, both who graduated from Swartz Creek in 2014, recently competed in the Golf Association of Michigan’s 106th Michigan Amateur Championship, held on June 20-24 at Egypt Valley Country Club. The tournament was open to men with handicaps of 5.4 or lower and featured 36 holes of stroke play followed by the low-64 players advancing to a match play bracket for the championship.

Both men competed in a qualifier at Clio Country Club to reach the tournament. Weller was a co-medalist with a 67 and Zyber shot a 71 to qualify for the championship. Once at the championship, Weller finished tied for 11th with a 146 through two rounds, moving him on to the bracket stage of the tournament. He would then go on to fall to Ken Hudson of Bloomfield Hills in the first round of match play, ending his tournament run. Meanwhile, Zyber finished tied for 81st, carding a total of 155 through two rounds, finishing just outside of the cut for the bracket stage.
