Cross country team gearing up for regional meet

SAGINAW – The Carman-Ainsworth cross country teams will compete at Saturday’s regional meet at Delta College, hosted by Saginaw Heritage. Also in attendance will be Alpena, Bay City Central, Bay City Western, Davison, Fenton, Flushing, Grand Blanc, Lapeer, Midland, Midland Dow, Mt. Pleasant, Saginaw and Swartz Creek.

The top three teams and top 15 individuals will all qualify for the state meet at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn on Nov. 2.

The Bay City Western girls are currently slated at No. 8 in the Div. 1 state rankings.

The boys’ season-best finish was posted by Jack Carter in 16:27.8 on Sept. 12, while also seeing impressive times from Kielin Thompson, Jack Roy, Dalero McNeal and Alex Wickham.

For the girls, Ayianna Massey set her season best at 22:03.8 on Oct. 16. Priscilla Bradford-Walker, Mikaiah Holbrook, Bianca Bowers and Rachel Allen are also strong contenders.


Both the boys and girls finished in third place as the boys recorded 63 and the girls 64 when Carman-Ainsworth hosted the Cavalier Classic last Friday. Carter placed second in 17:15.79, Thompson was fourth in 17:52.29 and Roy sixth in 18:01.86.

McNeal came in 28th in 19:44.25, Caleb Rodgers was 41st in 20:47.07 and Ian Wickham 47th in 21:43.09. Zion Clingman claimed 50th in 21:48.27, in 51st was Micah Shamly in 22:38.37 and Keegan Maguffee was 60th in 23:36.61. Tamaer Al-Harastani took 62nd in 24:28.77.

Massey led the girls in fourth in 23:39.03, Bradford-Walker was 12th in 25:43.70 and Rachel Allen 24th in 28:38.24. Hannah Kirby crossed in 29:58.46 for 27th, Arcella Henderson placed 29th in 31:55.06 and Emma Thorpe 32nd in 33:31.00.

C Coleman-Ervine finished in 34:11.02 for 33rd and Leah Allen was 35th in 40:17.53.

At last Wednesday’s Saginaw Valley League Championships at Delta College, the boys took ninth with 219 and the girls 11th with 334. Carter finished seventh in 16:45.26, Thompson was 29th in 17:34.05 and Roy 40th in 17:48.72.

McNeal placed 70th in 20:22.62, Ian Wickham was 73rd in 21:26.56 and Rodgers 74th in 21:33.52. Al-Harastani claimed 83rd in 25:16.19.

For the Lady Cavs, Massey finished in 22:03.74 for 41st place Holbrook was 72nd in 25:11.42 and Bradford-Walker 74th in 26:00.19. Rachel Allen was 75th in 28:52.62, Thorpe took 76th in 33:43.78 and Coleman-Ervine 77th in 34:46.55.
