LAPEER — In its first year at the Polar Palace in Lapeer, the annual Alumni Hockey Tournament got underway as a part of the tournament’s new three-year contract with the Lapeer venue. The tournament was also a fundraiser for the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan and the Mid-Michigan Youth Hockey Scholarship Fund.

The 18-and-over bracket consisted of Lapeer East, Lapeer West, Linden, Goodrich, Swartz Creek, Kearsley, Flint Powers Catholic, Grand Blanc, Flushing, Fenton and Clarkston. The 30-and-over tournament was comprised of Lapeer East, Kearsley, Flint Powers Catholic, Flint Southwestern, Grand Blanc, Davison, Fenton, Swartz Creek and Carman-Ainsworth.

Davison was the victor in the 18- and-over bracket as the Cardinals took down defending champion Swartz Creek, 6-2, on Sunday. That contest was followed by the 30-and-over championship, won by Flint Powers Catholic, 5-3, over Grand Blanc. — B.P.
