DAVISON — The Davison Downtown Development Authority has had a rough year, like everyone else, when it comes to holding events, following the cancellations of most of the car shows and the Pumpkin Festival.

But the DDA is going ahead with plans for the city’s annual Christmas on Main Street celebration, starting Dec. 4.

A letter was sent out to downtown merchants recently looking for financial support from the businesses on Main Street to help pay for street lighting, activities and events during the planned festivities.

Sponsorship levels are $50 for the tree lighting, $100 for having a business’ name on the tree and $250 for family activities, $500 for reindeer and Santa events. All other donations are also welcomed.

Sponsorship applications are available at city hall and completed forms and payments can be sent to: Davison DDA, ATT: Christmas on Main, 200 E. Flint St., Suite 2, Davison MI, 48423.

There will also be a Christmas parade on Dec. 4 with line-up at 5:30 p.m. and the parade starting at 6 p.m. An application to participate in the parade are also available at city hall and must be returned by Nov. 27. Applications can be put I the city drop box or mailed to Davison DDA, ATT: Christmas Parade, 200 E. Flint St., Suite 2, Davison MI, 48423.

A letter sent to merchants by DDA Event Coordinator Jessica Abraham also explains the DDA is in the process of planning for 2021.

“The anticipation for all the next year holds is exciting,” said Abraham, in the letter to merchants. “As we begin to discuss the future downtown happenings, we would be remiss if we didn’t include your voice and your opinion.”

Abraham is asking for input from the DDA business district regarding events and “exploring ideas to bring more foot traffic downtown.”

A survey was included in the mailing which is due back to the city by March 31.

The DDA is also partnering with businesses for 2021 to offer an “ala cart” version of sponsorships where merchants can pick and choose which events (or all) to participate in.

“We are reaching out now in hopes that our events will be fully funded prior to deposits needing to be made for our Summer 2021,” said Abraham, in the letter.

Sponsorships are requested by March 31.
