FLINT TWP. – The death of a twoyear old township girl is being investigated as a homicide, according to Police Chief George Sippert in a report to the township board last week.
On Tuesday, September 26 at about 2:40 p.m., police responded to a medical call in the 3000 block of Linden Lane Apartments, off Lennon and Dutcher roads, Chief Sippert said.
Officers found the child not breathing and tried to revive her with CPR. The officer also noticed serious injuries on the child, Chief Sippert reported. She was transported to Hurley Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. An autopsy was conducted and the preliminary findings by the medical examiner indicated homicide, however police still are waiting for a final report.
“Somebody in the home killed this young child,” Chief Sippert said. Police are working with protective services and interviewing people but the investigation is ongoing.
Police officers were very impacted by the case but did their best under the circumstances, he said.
Police said they would prefer not to release more details at this time to avoid jeopardizing their investigation. There have been no charges issued by the Genesee County Prosecutor’s Office at this time
Funeral services for the child, Zen’Daya Johnson were held on October 9
