BURTON — Dancers from DeCamp’s Spotlight School of Dance recently competed at StarQuest International and Rainbow Connection’s regional competitions.
They did amazing and brought home more than 50 trophies and plaques, and placed into 16 overalls in their categories, said Lindsay DeCamp Fullwood.
DeCamp’s took 20 routines to Rainbow Connection’s competition ranging from solos to a Jazz and Adagio Line of 75 dancers. They also took 13 solo, duo, trio and small group routines to Starquest International. At both competitions they performed routines in Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop, Lyrical and Adagio.
DeCamp’s competitive Tap group, Tapestry, took home the Judges Precision Award and were invited to New York City for classes over the summer with Rainbow Connection. Blue Company dancer’s Jazz routine “Runaway” and a small group Tap routine to “Peter Gun” also received invites. Peter Gun also placed fourth and eighth overall in their category.
A Senior Jazz Trio to “We Found Love” placed first in their category at both competitions as well as a small group Jazz routine to “Evacuate the Dance Floor.” A Jazz Trio to “Young Forever” placed first and second in their category and a senior Jazz trio to “Domino” placed second and third overall. Funkdafied place second Overall and Red Company’s Jazz Line to “Rolling In the Deep” placed third overall at Rainbow Connection in the senior Line category.
DeCamp’s Spotlight School of Dance’s highly acclaimed Spring Dance Concert is May 10-13 with five performances at the U of M Flint Theatre. This year they will be raising money throughout each show to donate locally to the Hurley Cancer Center.
Their Red Company dancers will be performing a piece, choreographed by Spotlight alumni Kasey Stark, to pay tribute to those close to them who have fought the battle. They will be performing it in honor of those who won the battle and in memory of those that they have lost.
