FLINT TWP. — In a night reserved to honor her 20 years of service, retiring township Treasurer Sandra Wright chose to hand out an accolade of her own.
Singling out deputy treasurer Tracey Tucker, Wright recalled an anxious phone call she made to Tucker from her hospital bed in 2009, where she was facing leg amputation.
Wright asked Tucker if she would step in during her absence and convalescence to keep the treasurer’s office running smoothly. With little hesitation, Tucker agreed.
Wright lauded Tucker as the best deputy treasurer anyone could have and praised her leadership ability.
She presented Tucker with an engraved plaque citing her appreciation for Tucker’s dedication and service.
She called Tucker and outstanding employee who is always willing to “do the extra in a time of need” in all township departments.
“She is never too busy to help others,’’ Wright said. “On this day, I want to personally commend her and thank her for not only being a good deputy and employee but a real friend to me.”
Wright, seated in her wheelchair, then asked the audience to assist her by giving Tucker a standing ovation.
