FLINT TWP. — Northbound interstate traffic to and through Flint Township will need to take a roundabout approach for several days next week.
MDOT has scheduled construction work that will close the northbound leg of I-75 between I-475 and U.S. 23 beginning May 4-8.
Northbound through traffic will be routed to I-475 to reconnect with I-75 in Mt. Morris Township.
Motorists headed to Flint Township or other destinations along I-75 in Genesee County between Bristol Road and I-69 will have to take the northbound I-475 detour to westbound I-69 or travel on surface streets.
Traffic on northbound I-75 will be detoured from 6 a.m. Sunday until 6 a.m. May 8.
The detour is necessary to accommodate work adjusting elevation under I-475. It is part of an overall $13.3 million project that began April 21 and is scheduled for completion in September.
Work includes resurfacing 19 miles of I-75 from the Genesee/Oakland county line to the I-475 junction, including bridge work on I-75 over Cook Road, I-75 under Grand “Blanc and Fenton roads and I-75 over the Flint River and Flushing Road.
Additionally, northbound I-75 from US-23 to Bristol Road will have lane closures in effect with two lanes open for the duration of this work. — Rhonda Sanders
