DAVISON — Davison High School student-athletes Chelsea Oryszczak and Jason Millis have been honored as the school’s 2019-2020 Saginaw Valley League Scholar Athletes of the Year. Both students were selected according to their GPAs and awards received, along with their displays of character and sportsmanship throughout the year.
Oryszczak, who held a 4.198 GPA, played volleyball, softball and basketball at DHS. Her favorite memories as a Davison Cardinal include dressing up in costume with the volleyball team for its Halloween practices and dancing in the rain with her teammates during a rain delay on the first day of softball districts (her junior year).
Oryszczak also enjoyed being a part of district-winning girls basketball teams as a sophomore and as a senior and playing alongside her closest friends.
Millis, who carried a 4.167 GPA, ran cross country and track for Davison. He was named to the All-State track and field team in the 4×800 meter relay during his junior year and earned All- State honors in his senior year for cross country.
Millis said that one of his favorite Davison athletic memories centers on the fall of 2019, when his cross-country team qualified for the state finals. Davison placed second at a regional meet to qualify for states, giving coach Matt Ames his first-ever cross-country team to qualify for the state level.
Each year, schools in the Saginaw Valley League select one male and one female senior student-athlete as its Scholar Athletes of the Year. Davison is proud to select Oryszczak and Millis as its 2019-2020 scholar athletes and wishes them the best in their future endeavors. — B.G.
