FLINT — Getting reading for holiday eating is the focus of a FREE cooking demonstration Nov. 30 from 2:-3 p.m. at the Hurley Diabetes Center, 2700 Robert T. Longway Blvd., Suite G, in Flint.
Diabetes is the fifth deadliest disease in the United States today. More than 1.5 million people are diagnosed every year. In Michigan alone, there are more than 2 million residents coping with diabetes.
Hurley Chef Steve Dunn will prepare and cook healthy holiday dishes for diabetics. Participants will get the opportunity to sample free food samples.
“This free holiday cooking event is a great way for people to learn how to bring their diabetes under control during the holidays, which can be a real challenge,” said Micki Juip, MA, BSN, RN, CDE, clinical manager at Hurley Diabetes Center.
Keeping blood sugars in their target range can help offset diabetes complications. The cooking demonstration offers hands-on cooking tips and educational information for diabetics to help ensure a healthier holiday season and a better quality of life for all.
