Disabled vets may be eligible for property tax exemption



FLINT TWP. — Disabled veterans in Flint Township may qualify for an exemption on residential, Homestead Property Tax, according to a notice posted on the township web site.

This is a new program implemented by the State of Michigan in November 2013. Applications must be made annually by submitting a completed Affidavit for Disabled Veterans Exemption prior to the start of the March, July, or December Board of Review meeting dates.

The next Board of Review meeting is set for 10 a.m. on December 15.

It is offered to disabled veterans discharged from the armed forces of the United States under honorable conditions or to his or her non-remarried surviving spouse.

The completed Affidavit must be filed with township Assessor, William Fowler before, or until the conclusion of the December Board of Review.

Interested applicants are advised to check the state web site for updates as requirements, deadlines and submission information for the program continue to be modified as the program is established.
