Dispute over money likely led to fatal shooting in Gaines Twp.

GAINES TOWNSHIP — A dispute over money appears to have led to a fatal shooting in Gaines Township.

Police say David Lee Holmes, 49, died of a gunshot wound to the head when two gunmen entered the home in the 11000 block of Hill Road, near Nichols Road, around 7:15 p.m. Monday.

“Troopers responded to a shooting call and, upon arrival, found a man down at the house,” said state police 1st Lt. David Kaiser. “Several witnesses described a silver Dodge Durango with five or six people.”

Within minutes, Metro Police Authority officers spotted the suspect vehicle on School Street in the City of Swartz Creek, he said. Officers followed the vehicle as it went east on Miller Road.

Police from multiple jurisdictions stopped the suspects on Miller Road at Interstate 69 in Swartz Creek.

Six people, including a 21-year-old woman and five men, were arrested and lodged on suspicion of homicide. All are from Flint, Kaiser said. Two of the men are 18 years old, the others are 22, 23 and 25.

Witnesses reported hearing three shots and seeing two men wearing masks run from the home to the vehicle.

Additional reports indicate the house was the scene of a drug raid three weeks ago.

Additional details were not available by press time.
