Donor council providing comfort blankets

FLINT — The Michigan Donor Family Council provides beautiful comfort blankets to organ and tissue donor families at the time of their loss.

It is the hope of the organization this gift of compassion brings families some small amount of comfort.

In 2019, Donate Life Coalition of Michigan (DLCM) and the Michigan Donor Family Council (MDFC) co-hosted the first Creating Comfort Blanket Party in Southfield as an event to not only increase the number of comfort blankets available through MDFC’s comfort blanket program but also to bring the message of donation to the community and allow them to extend comfort to new donor families.

Last year, this event expanded to Ann Arbor and this year, the expansion continued to include Grand Rapids, Detroit, and Flint.

DLCM and MDFC officials said they are grateful for Gift of Life Michigan to be running the Flint satellite site this year.

The event is open to the public at the Center for Hope, 812 Root St., Flint, on Sept. 21 from 5:30-9:30 p.m.

They will be following the COVID guidelines in place at that time (masks are required per Center for Hope) and spreading the blanket making tables out to provide social distancing between groups.

Updates will be available on the group’s Facebook page.

If you wish to make blankets on your own, visit michigandonorfamilycouncil.org/?page_id=12 for blanket dimensions. You are welcome to bring completed blankets with you on Sept. 21 and add them to the Flint total.
