Dort Federal Credit Union presented the Governor’s Service Award

GRAND BLANC — On June 5, Dort Federal Credit Union was presented with the prestigious Governor’s Service Awards in the Corporate Community Leader category.

Dort Federal Credit Union was nominated by the United Way of Genesee County for their dedication to making a lasting and continuous impact in its communities. The Governor’s Service Awards are given annually by the Governor of the State of Michigan to individuals, organizations and businesses to acknowledge their commitment to serving their communities through volunteerism.

“This year’s winners have inspiring stories. They have made a tremendous impact on the lives of others through their service,” Gov. Rick Snyder said. “I am extremely grateful for the contributions they have made for Michigan and am honored to recognize their incredible accomplishments.”

In 2017 alone, Dort Federal Credit Union donated to, volunteered at, and/or participated in nearly 100 events and charities in the community. This has led to countless hours of volunteer work by employees, 45 pints of blood donated, and over $19,000 raised personally from employees and donated to charities. Dort Federal Credit Union does not implement a required volunteer program. The time that employees of the organization put towards charities are all in kind nature. Nearly continuous staff involvement goes extremely far in bettering the communities we live, work, attend school, worship and volunteer in.

The Michigan Community Service Commission received more than 100 nominations for the Governor’s Service Awards. “Through the people helping people philosophy, we are able to serve our members, their communities and society as a whole” said Dort Federal Credit Union CEO Vicki Hawkins. “We are extremely honored and humbled to receive this prestigious award. Giving back and supporting the well-being of the communities we serve is a very important part of who we are as an organization”.

Dort Federal Credit Union serves nearly 83,000 members and currently has seven locations in and around the Greater Flint area. Membership is open to anyone who lives, works, attends school, worships, or volunteers in Genesee, Lapeer, or Shiawassee County, or Deerfield and Tyrone Townships in Livingston County.
