GENESEE COUNTY — The Genesee County Drain Commissioner’s Office, Division of Water and Waste Services (GCDC – WWS) has completed its rate review for the upcoming year and reports there will be no rate increase to the local communities for water delivery.
This is the fourth consecutive year of no water rate increases. The unchanged rates for 2021 were recently approved unanimously by the Genesee County Water and Waste Advisory Board, whose members are comprised of representatives from 42 townships, cities, and villages across our community.
“The combination of cost controls, continued efforts to improve efficiencies, and cost savings emanating from operating our own water system have been critical to this achievement,” said Genesee County Drain Commissioner Jeff Wright. “More than anything however, I would like to give tremendous credit to the dedicated women and men working for our Drain office. The operational staff at the plant, as well as our operations and maintenance crews, and other support staff do an outstanding job performing critical tasks with tremendous efficiency. They never wavered from their jobs, even in the face of the ongoing pandemic, and continue to serve our residents admirably.”
The rate stabilization over the past four years is a stark contrast from the decades long, yearly rate hikes previously experienced from our old supplier, before implementation of the Karegnondi Water Authority and operation of the county’s own water system. — G.G.
