FLINT TWP. — The wait is almost over for shoe lovers eager to shop at a local Designer Shoe Warehouse store. Signs on the door indicate that the approximately 20,000 square-foot store at 4135 Miller Road will open on April 30.
Job openings are posted on the company’s website at careers.dswinc.com.
“We typically hire 30-35 associates for a new store,’’ said Christina Cheng, DSW Senior Director, Investor Relations. DSW was voted one of the top retail workplaces in 2014, she said.
DSW stores have been in Michigan long enough to be familiar to local shoppers. DSW sells discounted footwear and accessories including a broad selection of dress, casual and athletic footwear for women, men and children.
DSW customers will find a large assortment of regular priced goods that are at least 20% off manufacturers’ suggested retail price, as well as a good selection of goods on the clearance rack that are an additional 30%, 40%, 50% and 70% off even during opening day, Cheng said.
In a typical store, shoes are displayed and stacked in boxes on waist-high counters along long, wide aisles while clearance merchandise is displayed on racks at the back of the store.
DSW operates 431 stores in 42 states, Washington D.C. an Puerto Rico and 370 leased departments at other retailers in the United States under the Affiliated Business Group banner, according to information provided on the store website.

The average DSW store is approximately 22,000 square feet and stocks about 24,000 pairs of shoes.
Its DSW Rewards program offers members who sign up an opportunity to earn points from each purchase toward a $10 Rewards certificate.
DSW will occupy the former Border’s bookstore space in the Pirate Plaza Shopping Center also anchored by a PetSmart and Sports Authority stores.
