FLINT TWP. — Around this time every year, the township board approves a contract with the Genesee County Road Commission to spray unpaved roads for dust control.
The contract calls for spraying roads with a chloride solution. The first application is done in late April or early May; the second application is done in late June or early July and the third and final application is done in mid-September. The township has 20.84 miles of unpaved roads.
The Dust Control contract presented to the township board stated that the township and road commission would split the cost of the first application; the township would pay for the second application and the road commission would pay for the third application.
The treatments are needed during hot/dry months when lack of moisture causes fine dust and reduces road stability.
