FLINT TWP. — Coming any day now is the first dust-control treatment on local unpaved roads, under an agreement approved by the Flint Township Board with the Genesee County Road Commission maintenance division.
A letter from Anthony Branch, director of maintenance, estimated the township’s share of cost at $43,764 for two applications at $21,882 each. The Road Commission pays 100 percent of materials cost for the first application done in late April and the township is responsible for additional treatments done in late June and in mid- September.
The agreement calls for a 38 percent calcium chloride solution at a spread rate of 2000 gallons per mile per application. The cost estimate does not include private roads or shoulders of paved roads.
The countywide estimated $414,487 2011 dust control program covering nearly 400 miles of unpaved roads includes about 21 miles in Flint Township. Under the agreement, the township’s share of cost will be payable in monthly billings from the Road Commission. — Rhonda Sanders
