GRAND BLANC — ELGA Credit Union (ELGA CU) donated $11,020 to Hurley Hospital’s Breast Cancer Navigation Program.

Hurley is the first medical center in Genesee County to offer a Breast Health Nurse Navigator. The navigation program provides education, support, and resources for local patients and their families during their time of need.

“After losing my mom to breast cancer in 2015, this cause became near and dear to my heart. My mom loved people and never hesitated to help anyone, so I know she is smiling down right now.” said Mallory Hazard, ELGA CU VP of Consumer Lending. “Supporting our community and getting involved in something bigger than ourselves is inspiring. This donation will have a huge impact on our community and those who fight this battle. My hope for these individuals is that they never feel alone and feel encouraged throughout their fight.”

Hurley Breast Cancer Program is the region’s leader in breast health and breast cancer treatment. During a time that might feel uncertain for patients to navigate through, Hurley provides the highest level of clinical breast cancer care and compassion for patients and their families. Oncologists working at Hurley are committed to educating patients about breast cancer and treatment options to create the best plan to meet each patient’s specific needs.

ELGA Credit Union (ELGA CU) kicked off its annual Breast Cancer Awareness fundraiser on Sept. 30 at all of its 13 locations.

The staff purchased t-shirts, collected monetary donations, and sold pink bracelets and ribbons. The CEO, Terry Katzur, hosted a lunch called “Hot Dogs with the Big Dog,” where he cooked hotdogs for the staff to purchase lunch for the cause. ELGA CU raised $11,020 for Hurley Hospitals Breast Cancer Navigation.

All funds will be donated to local patients treated at Hurley Hospital.
