BURTON — At press time Wednesday incumbent Genesee County Commissioner Ellen Ellenburg (D-3rd district) was ahead of challenger Gary Goetzinger by a vote of 10,611-8,653.
Ellenburg, 66, who served nine years on the Burton City Council and four years on the Genesee County Board of Commissioners, said she will continue to work together with the county board continuing with a “new course of accountability.”
“Under our leadership, we’ve put a stop to uninformed decision making and demanded that our community’s priorities are included when crafting our budgets,” she told the View prior to the Nov. 3 election.
She said she is proud this year’s county budget will dedicate the highest percentage of its general budget to public safety than at any time in at least the last five years.
Goetzinger, a former high school principal, assistant principal, community education director, teacher, athletic director and coach served previously as a city councilman in St. Louis, Michigan.
As county commissioner he said he would work to improve the quality of life in Genesee County.
All numbers reflect the vote counts reported on the Genesee County Clerk website as of press time.
