Emmendorfer received 5-years probation

FLINT — A former Davison High School teacher was given five years probation Wednesday for recording a naked 14-year-old girl in a tanning booth last year.

Jacob Emmendorfer received the sentence at a hearing in front of Genesee Circuit Judge Mark Latchana for the incident, which happened in April of 2019.

Emmendorfer, 43, pleaded guilty in February to a count of capturing/ distributing an image of an unclothed person. The plea allowed him to avoid two counts of using a computer to commit a crime and a count of child sexually abusive material.

The former teacher and coach at DHS is also required to register as a sex offender and have no contact with unrelated children under the age of 17 without supervision, according to Assistant Genesee County Prosecutor John Potbury.

The incident happened at Tropi Tan, 4180 W. Vienna Rd., in Vienna Township, on April 29, 2019.

According to reports, the 14-year-old victim was lying naked in a tanning bed when she noticed a cell phone dangling over the partition between two tanning rooms. She saw the recording light was on and jumped out of the tanning bed, got dressed and told her mother what had happened. Her mother immediately called police.

When Emmendorfer was arrested, police were unable to find any images of the girl on his phone.

Testimony indicated Emmendorfer believed he was recording an adult because he only saw the girl’s clothing on the floor. — G.G.
