Empty bowls fill hungry bellies

FLINT – With the assistance of community partners such as the Flint Institute of Arts and the Michigan Woodturners Association, the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan (FBEM) recently held their annual Empty Bowls fundraiser which helps provide funding to feed needy families throughout Genesee County.

The FBEM, whose motto is “Change the Face of Hunger” is one of the main sources of food for underprivileged in the area and is partnering with other local organizations helps them fulfill their mission.

The event allows participants to pick out a hand-crafted pottery or wood bowl and sample freshly prepared soups. It also includes a silent auction, entertainment, and a cooking demonstration. Fox Radio personality Lisa Marie Szukhent worked with volunteer chef Joseph Schipani to cook up some delicious food for attendees following other radio hosts Mike and Stephanie from WWCK 105.5 earlier in the day.

Local seniors benefit from the food bank too, with more than 340 seniors a month receiving a special senior food box. If you missed this year’s event, you can help the Food Bank by donating online at www.FBEM.org/donate or call them at 810-239-4441. —P.S.
