FCCC and FIM enter into a memorandum of understanding

FLINT — Governing representatives of the Flint Cultural Center Corporation and the Flint Institute of Music signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to proceed with examining and evaluating a potential consolidation of programmatic and operational responsibilities to FIM from the FCCC.

During the period of the MOU, FIM will assume the day-to-day operations and programming of both The Whiting and Capitol Theatre. All programming commitments through the MOU period will continue as planned, as will current staffing.

The origin of a potential restructuring of the FCCC’s oversight regarding The Whiting dates to 2012, with the organization ultimately deciding to plan the “spin off” of The Whiting along with the Capitol Theatre as a separate 501c 3 non-profit organization.

The MOU affords the FIM the potential to build on past successes by creating a clear and distinct ‘lane’ for consolidation of the performing arts under one administrative and artistic umbrella. Critical to the growing economic success in the rebirth of the downtown area, is having the vibrant and animated presence of the Capitol Theatre. — G.G.
