FCOC partners with local retailer to provide hunger relief for Flushing residents

FLUSHING — The Flushing Christian Outreach Center (FCOC) is proud to announce a partnership with the Swartz Creek Meijer this holiday season to provide much-needed hunger relief to local families through the retailer’s customer-driven food pantry donation program, Simply Give.

“Due to the pandemic, we have record numbers of Flushing people using our services,” said Terry Bigelow, the FCOC Program Manager. “The need for food is great.”

The Meijer Simply Give Campaign encourages customers to purchase $10 Simply Give donation cards, which are then converted into Meijer food-only gift cards and given to a local food pantry in the store’s community. On Dec. 12, Meijer will match $2 for every $1 donated.

FCOC will benefit from donation cards purchased at the Swartz Creek Meijer Store now through Jan. 2.

“We are neighbors helping neighbors,” Bigelow said. “Over 100 volunteers provide enough food for over 20,000 meals per month. We desperately need help to fill our shelves.”

Donations for the Simply Give Campaign may be made at Meijer in Swartz Creek in the checkout lane, dropped off at FCOC or mailed to FCOC at 5409 W. Pierson Rd, Flushing MI 48433. — B.G.
